The moon and stars have aligned to give us an EXTRA Sunday this month which messes up our 3 +1 system of challenges. Today is another FIFTH SUNDAY! Are you ready to play and have some fun??!

The Fifth Sunday Challenge... "USE FIVE"!! Use the number 5 or five items, five colors, five words... what ever FIVE represents to you. For those who want to go a little more literal - here's the definition, too! Loads of inspiration could be had over at Wikipedia's page for 5 (number).

In the Spotlight + Mini Challenge... Diana Fernandez

Hello crafting friends. It's my turn for a spotlight challenge. This is where you all get to hear a little bit about me, and maybe a little bit about my crafting journey as well!

I will start with me...

Yep, that's me when I was just a little tyke!

I loved cats back then, and I have a cat now that looks a lot like this one, only my baby boy is wearing a tuxedo!

I live in (almost always) sunny Arizona. I am married to this fun loving guy, (there were 10 corn dogs)! And we have a houseful of furry "kids." Six to be exact, 3 dogs, and 3 cats. Our oldest is an 18 year old calico who has never really liked me, but loves my husband!

I work a full time job as a 911 operator/ police dispatcher. Its a fast paced and fun job, I literally love going to work! It's always interesting, and it's always a fun environment. There is a lot of stress in my job, and I use my crafting to help alleviate some of that stress.

For my crafting journey, I began as a child, I did cross stitch with my mom, and have always been enthralled with colors and patterns.

So for Valentines day in 2008 my husband got me a sewing machine. Yes it's sort of like buying a mixer for a housewife in the 1950's right? But I really wanted to work with fabric. I made a couple of quilts, and bought A LOT of fabric, and I soon moved on to paper, but I brought my sewing machine to paper, and I've never looked back!

Now who wants to see some of my work?

Yeah, me too!

I have a slew of art journal pages to share with you. Art Journaling has been my passion for a while now. It seems to permeate much of my crafting now.

I love to get paint and ink all over, and to work
with adding color and texture to my pages.

A small wall hanging with a mixed media butterfly.

I do hope that some of my work and my story has inspired you.
Please feel free to check out my blog HERE.

I do just love love love all the mixed media goodness that is out there. And I hope you will take some of my work and create your own art journal piece. Whats that you say... you don't have an art journal. Well you don't need a specific art journal to do an art journal page! You can use any sort of heavy weight paper you have to get some inky and painted goodness down!

This is my challenge to you...
create an art journal page, try something you've never tried,
you just never know what you might find! ~ Diana

Sally Morgan is an Indigenous Australian artist. This piece, called 'Aboriginal Land', a screen print done in 1990, is the inspiration for my canvas. The photos are of favourite places I like to visit in my local area. Find out more about these, because some have Aboriginal significance, and also how I've completed the canvas by checking out my BLOG.

From Picasso... to Brendascco!
Please hop on over to my BLOG for more details.

Irises

I chose Claude Monet as my Master inspiration. I made a watercolor ATC inspired by his oil painting of purple irisesPlease visit my BLOG for more details.

I have always been in love with Edgar Degas' paintings of ballerinas and while doing some research came across some preliminary sketches of dancers done by him. This became my inspiration for sketching and painting a ballerina on a book page. A micron pen, gesso and some watercolours were my tools of choice.

This piece was inspired by the artist Georgia O'Keefe... An American Modernist Artist. Check out her bio and her amazing artwork. Her colors are so brilliant and the detail of her work is like looking through a magnifying glass. Her later life in NM inspired lots of south western pieces. I have also put together a quick video tutorial on how I painted this picture Poppy Flower at my BLOG.  Thank you so much for joining us and I hope we have inspired you... xo

I love tribal art and this time around I have played with the famous Calcutta artist, Jamini Roy's painting. I first recreated his painting and then altered it with a mixed media background. A tribute to the master and gift for mothers day... Visit my BLOG for more details.

Art Journal inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci. Pop on over to my BLOG post to see more!

I gathered my inspiration from one of the most influential figures in the "Pop Art" culture, Mr. Andy Warhol. For more info on the creating process and more pictures view my blog HERE.

This month at Anything But a Card the theme is inspiration from the Masters. The Portland Art Museum held an exhibition of one of my favorite fine artists in 90’s. I was inspired by his main focus in the later part of his life to do a Water Lily scene.  Come by my BLOG to see how easy and quick it was to create this little wall hanging inspired by a French Impressionist.

When I studied art at college I found that the more I learnt about a particular work of art, the more I would love it. Consequently, choosing just one for this challenge was not easy, in fact it was impossible and I ended up choosing two. You can find out more about the inspiration for my projects, as well as how I made them, over on my BLOG.

Salvador Dali has always been one of my favorite artists, and while his works are usually of a brighter variety, I took inspiration from his painting "Butterfly Book" – and here is my take. I hope you can see the inspiration in my piece. Please check out my BLOG for more details.

My art master Inspiration is Pop Art. I went to the Roy Lichtenstein exhibit a couple years ago at the Art Institute of Chicago. My my project is inspired by him. Please visit my BLOG for more details!

The thing that came to my mind right away was to do something with old photos I took while in the mountains years ago. A sort of "Ansel Adams" inspired project. Perhaps photography wasn't the exact thing in mind when the prompt was decided upon by the challenge coordinators, but I certainly think that there are Master Photographers. Those that are religious might say that the gorgeous scenery all around us in our world was masterfully created by their God. Thus, my project inspired by Masters :) Stop by my BLOG to see what I repurposed, and how, for my project this month.
